KEEP GOING FOR YOUR GOALS WHEN OTHERS QUIT

While every new year we all at times try to set goals; At the end of each month, so you do not loose focus it is the perfect time to re-assess your commitment and strategy for achieving your objectives this year. You’ll see which goals you are ready to give up on and decide whether you set the wrong goal in the first place or simply lack a sufficiently robust structure for support.

5 ways you can be more accountable to your goals this year:

1. Write down your goals. Make them specific and measurable. This will help you track your progress and stay on target.

2. Share your goals with someone else. This could be a friend, family member, co-worker or life coach. Having someone else hold you accountable can be a powerful motivator. This is especially true when combined with regular check-in calls or meetings to discuss your progress and brainstorm strategies to overcome any setbacks or obstacles that crop up along the way.

3. Use a planner or goal-tracking app to help you stay organised and on top of your goals. I really love self journals when tackling a project. You could use this type of planner for any number of goals whether fitness and health-related or more creative projects like writing a book.

4. Set deadlines for yourself and stick to them. Deadlines can help you stay focused and motivated to achieve your goals. Again, I find it helpful to have an accountability partner or life coach to make the deadlines feel real. Set a start and end date with a reward at the end that motivates you.

5. Keep a record of your progress. This can be as simple as making a checkmark on a to-do list or keeping a journal of your achievements. Seeing your progress can help you stay motivated and focused on your goals.

One expert tip for reaching a big goal is to break it down into smaller, more manageable goals. This can make the goal feel more achievable and help you stay focused and motivated. It can also help you track your progress and celebrate small wins along the way. Additionally, it’s important to set deadlines for each of the smaller goals and stick to them as closely as possible. This helps you stay on track and keeps moving you toward your ultimate objective. Another tip is to enlist the help and support of others. Having a support system of friends, family, or colleagues can provide valuable encouragement and accountability as you work towards your big goal.

Make Your Goals More Fun!

There are a few ways you can make reaching goals more fun:

-Turn goal achievement into a game. For example, you could set up a rewards system for yourself where you earn points or rewards every time you make progress toward your goal. I like giving myself a gold star for each day I make progress.

-Find a partner or group to work with towards your goals. Having someone to share the journey with can make the process more enjoyable by providing ongoing motivation and encouragement.

-Make it a social event. Invite friends or family to participate in activities that support your goals. For example, if your goal is to exercise more, you could plan group workouts or sporting events or take on a big challenge.

-Find ways to incorporate your interests and passions into your goal-reaching process. If you enjoy art, then you could create a vision board to help you visualise and stay motivated toward your goals.

-Celebrate your progress and victories along the way. Take time to recognise and reward yourself for the progress you have made toward your goals. This can help keep you motivated and make the goal-reaching process more enjoyable. It helps to have milestones when you have really big goals.

What if you start losing motivation?

If you find you are struggling to keep going, it can be helpful to take a step back and assess the situation. Here are a few things you can try:

-Reflect on why you set the goal in the first place. Reminding yourself of the reasons behind your goal can help rekindle your motivation. If you are struggling to stay motivated, it may be that you’ve chosen a goal that doesn’t align with your values. Is this goal a “should” goal? If so, get rid of it and pick something that is naturally motivating.

-Is this goal still relevant and meaningful to you? If it’s not, it may be time to re-evaluate and set a new goal based on your core values and passions.

-Break the goal down into smaller, more manageable steps. This can make the goal feel more achievable and help you stay motivated when you are feeling overwhelmed.

-Get support and accountability from others. This could be from a friend, family member, or life coach. Having someone to talk to and share your progress with can be a great source of motivation.

-Find ways to make the goal-reaching process more enjoyable. This could be through incorporating your interests, values, and passions, setting up a rewards system, or finding a partner to work with toward the goal. Most people find it easier to do something difficult if they are doing it with another person.

-Take a break if needed. Sometimes, a loss of motivation can be a sign that you need to rest and recharge. It’s okay to take a break and come back to your goals when you’re feeling more energised and motivated.
